It’s not for everyone, but my favorite time to hike the Finger Lakes gorges is on cold late-autumn days (like early-mid November), when the New York State parks aren’t overrun with tourists.
Most of the tourism is focused around the wineries right now, so the people you do see here are locals, avid hikers, photographers, etc. It’s a much more laid back vibe.

This is the more difficult hike, and the less common route people take, but it’s really satisfying if you park at the bottom, climb the Rim Trail to the top, then take the Gorge Trail back down.

It’s definitely a climb. LOL

We also hit the Gorge Trail at just the right time, when it was almost like other people didn’t exist at all.. It’s a rare and truly magical experience when it does happen.
Well worth the cold fingers.
