On Saturday [June 15, 2024], I went to the second day of the 42nd Annual Strawberry Festival in Owego, NY with my boyfriend to walk around, watch the new giant strawberry [Front St, riverside] being carved, and see what’s up with the strawberry daquiris, which were great, btw.
We [luckily] found a shady spot for two with a view on the front porch of the Elks Lodge, where we could drink daquiris, listen to the band across the street, and people watch.
It was a sunny day, few clouds, with limited shade and plenty of pavement, and food trucks putting off heat as well, so even though it was in the low-mid 70s [°F], the people were hot and getting sunburned.
Those cold, delicious strawberry daquiris were especially nice in the heat.
Next, we took a little stroll down the scenic [and quieter] Riverwalk, to the park at the other end.
Being neurodivergent, I struggle with sensory issues and overstimulation, and this is my way of processing and resetting in busy environments like this.
Then we decided it was time to eat something, and right across the street was Owego’s Historic Park View Hotel & Irish Pub, so that’s where we went.
They had a special menu for Strawberry Fest, from which we ordered strawberry daquiris and the boom boom shrimp appetizer, and then I also had the mac and cheese entrée, which, all of it was fantastic.
Afterward, we took another lap around the festival area downtown, then headed back to the car, stopping off at Brick Pond to continue the walk a short while longer before leaving.
It was a good day. 🍓
