Hinchcliff Family Preserve is located in the hills above Skaneateles Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The trails are rated moderate on a good day.

But this wasn’t exactly a “good” day in terms of hiking conditions. While the snow had melted in Binghamton, it was still going strong in the hills of Homer. Between the trees and terrain, there is a lot of shadow out there, keeping it cooler than surrounding areas. Then add in the wind.. CHILLY!

It quickly became clear that the hike I chose was a difficult one to get back into longer distances again. The hills and high stepping over roots, rocks, etc is an excellent workout in itself, then add in the snow, making the SO and I work harder with every step.. my lower back felt it for a few days after!

Still worth it though.

That's Skaneateles Lake in the background. You only get a partial view from the trails, and it'll be very different when the trees have leaves, but it sure is beautiful on a sunny day.

Lovely stories! I grew up in Syracuse, so I really enjoyed seeing your posts. I do not miss the snow, however! It’s why I live on the California coast now.Donna Maurillo(That Maurillo Girl on WordPress)
