This post is a bit overdue, as I haven’t been able to keep up writing about all the recent adventures with so much going on..
Let’s flash back to March 15th… the snow in Central New York had [mostly] melted, except around Skaneateles Lake, apparently. It was a VERY windy day. A storm was due to hit us later in the afternoon, so the SO and I were on a bit of a tight schedule with this hike.
Carpenter Falls Unique Area, Bahar Nature Preserve & Skaneateles Lake hiking vlog // watch on Atmosfy
Skaneateles Lake – waves crashing on a windy day – relaxing water asmr Honestly? Carpenter Falls looked GROSS during this visit. Because of the road crossing the creek right at the top of the waterfall, all that dirt covers the snow below, turning it black. At least we now know to either go right after a fresh snowfall, or when there’s no snow at all.The Bahar Nature Preserve trail connects Carpenter Falls Unique Area to a scenic point on Skaneateles Lake. The difficulty rating is moderate, and I personally think it’s more on the upper end of moderate, with all the roots and other tripping hazards, so you have to pick your feet up higher. If you’re looking for a lower back and glutes workout, this hike is for you [plus the steps around Carpenter Falls]. There are several more waterfalls along the Bahar Nature Preserve trail, but far below. The topography in this area is steep!! The trail is also quite narrow, and there are no safety rails, fences, etc. The winds were so strong that the waves of Skaneateles Lake were more like light ocean waves. One more of Skaneateles Lake.
We had to pick up the pace for the hike back, but we made it to the car just as the rain started to fall.
