This week the SO and I hiked the Black Diamond Trail from the upper loop of the Cayuga Nature Center in Ithaca to Taughannock Falls State Park in Trumansburg.

The BDT is an 8.5 mile trail that begins at Cass Park in Ithaca, and extends through Taughannock Falls State Park. It used to be part of a line for the Lehigh Valley Railroad’s luxury passenger service, the Black Diamond Express, which ran from New York to Buffalo from 1896 to 1959.

Finger Lakes Beekeepers Club Learning Apiary - I love these bees! I got to see them in action last summer, and they are the most quiet and docile little blonde honeybees.. I was shocked at how friendly they are!

It turned out to be a lot sunnier than expected, and I should've gone heavier on the sunscreen (I forgot to spray my head!), but luckily, I was just a little pink at the end of the day. -- Kae Audhild sitting on a railing beside a creek that runs along the black diamond trail, outdoor fitness hiking travel blogger

There is also a spot where waterfalls pass beneath the trail. The sounds there are so relaxing! Black Diamond Trail Ithaca NY

Had to stop and appreciate the green. I love watching the plants 'wake up' each spring. 🌿

The Taughannock Falls State Park section of the BDT is currently closed and under construction, but from here, it looks ALMOST done!

There are so many new things coming to this section of the trail. Personally, I'm most excited about the restroom.. it looks nice! Taughannock really needed one there... last year I really had to go, but the closest toilet was on the other side of the rim. 😆

I’m glad we finally hiked [part of] the Black Diamond Trail, after I’d been hearing about it for YEARS… It’s nice.

    Love reading your material.
As a transplant to N.E. Pa., I learned to fall in love with NY state’s wooden land. So beautiful!!! Reading your blog lets me know where to visit. My thanks!

    Super-awesome blog!

Finger Lakes region is on my list to explore with my family when the things get going between us two neighbours. Right now, Canadian Fed and Ontario provincial government are advising against travelling to the USA.
