Some meals are about convenience.
And some meals are about presence.
This hearty, deeply seasoned lasagna is the kind of dinner you make when you want your home to feel warm, grounded, and intentional — like a small Italian trattoria tucked into a quiet side street.
It’s rich without being heavy. Flavorful without being complicated. And made slowly, in a vintage casserole dish that reminds me that good things are meant to last.
If you love simple luxuries and elevated comfort food, this recipe is for you.
Why This Lasagna Is Different
Most homemade lasagna is… fine.
But it’s often:
- Underseasoned
- Watery
- Bland in the middle
- Dry on the edges
This version avoids all of that by focusing on three things:
✔ A slow-simmered, well-seasoned meat sauce
✔ A “luxe” ricotta layer with depth and richness
✔ Balanced cheeses for creaminess and structure
The result? Every bite tastes intentional.

🧺 Ingredients
Pasta & Cheese
- 16 oz lasagna noodles
- 15 oz whole milk ricotta
- 16 oz whole milk mozzarella, shredded
- 8 oz grated parmesan
- 3-4 oz extra sharp white cheddar (optional)
Meat Sauce
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2-3 small onions, finely diced
- Olive oil
- 29 oz tomato sauce
Seasonings
- McCormick Montreal Steak seasoning
- Garlic slices grinder
- Black pepper grinder
- Oregano
- Thyme
- Rosemary (tiny pinch)
- Himalayan pink salt grinder
- Smoked paprika
- Dark chili powder (tiny amount)
Ricotta Upgrade
🔥 Step 1: Make the Flavor-Rich Meat Sauce
Heat a large pan over medium heat and add a generous drizzle of olive oil.
Add diced onions with a pinch of salt and cook for 5-7 minutes, until soft and glossy.
Add ground beef and brown completely, breaking it up as it cooks.
Season with:
- 1½ tsp Montreal seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic
- Freshly ground black pepper
- ½ tsp oregano
- Pinch thyme
- Tiny pinch rosemary
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika
- Pinch dark chili powder
Pour in tomato sauce and simmer on low for 20-30 minutes.
Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed. You want it rich, savory, and balanced.
🧀 Step 2: Make the Luxe Ricotta Layer
In a bowl, mix:
- Ricotta
- ½ cup parmesan
- 1 tsp jalapeño everything seasoning
- Black pepper
- Pinch salt
- Splash of olive oil
Mix until smooth and creamy.
This step adds depth and turns ordinary ricotta into something special.
🍜 Step 3: Cook the Pasta
Boil noodles in well-salted water until just shy of al dente.
Drain and lay flat on a towel so they don’t stick together.
🧱 Step 4: Assemble the Lasagna
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Lightly oil a 2.5-quart casserole dish.
