A “Soft Life” Guide for 2026: Living Well Without Burning Out

Prioritize well-being without abandoning discipline, growth, or meaningful work.

During the hottest part of summer, when the state parks are packed full of people, I like to seek out less busy areas to hike.

Bucks Falls in Starrucca, PA is one of those places — out in the middle of nowhere, on relatively dangerous roads, with spotty cell service, and there is parking for only TWO vehicles.

The SO and I were going to park at an old train station we saw on Google Maps and walk the rail trail to the waterfall instead, but it now appears to be a private residence and they don’t want you parking there. The entire area does not seem friendly to pedestrians, or outsiders. So we drove directly to Bucks Falls, and we just happened to get lucky.

We had the entire place to ourselves.

And it’s beautiful — the flowing water, the jagged cliffs, the thick moss…

Of course I had to get up close and personal with this beautiful waterfall.

The sound of the water is fantastic. It’s so nice to stop, listen, and just BE for a while..

Bucks Falls is a gorgeous hidden gem, and the vibes of the land feel so good.

In hindsight, I’m glad the space for visitors is VERY limited. Less foot traffic has allowed the land to thrive more than you see in big, busy parks.

I was debating sharing this one, but the locals have set it up to be difficult to visit, and the flow of visitors kind of manages itself.

If you do happen to make it there, be respectful.

Beautiful falls tonight! We’re going to sleep out in the garden to watch the stars fall from the sky – something we’ve done every August for many years. Your post was such a joy to read; it gave me something refreshing compared to the endless news about Donald Trump. Oh no, not him – but our newspapers write about him every single day, along with all the silly things he says and does over there./ malix.se
