A “Soft Life” Guide for 2026: Living Well Without Burning Out

Prioritize well-being without abandoning discipline, growth, or meaningful work.

The day after the Roberson Wine & Food Fest, the SO and I went for a hike at Robert H Treman State Park in Ithaca, NY.

The Gorge Trail is currently closed, but we were there to see the trillium! More specifically the red trillium, as I hadn’t seen or gotten photos of them yet. (Thanks for the tip, you know who you are! 😉)

We stopped to see the Lower Falls first (swimming area closed, obviously), then wandered over to the cabin area to access the Rim Trail. (Stairs day!)

I thought this red trillium backlit by the sun was stunning. 🌞

It was such a gorgeous day — clear skies — and the position of the sun made it feel extra magical, the way it backlit the trillium and made the colors pop. ✨️

It started with one here, one there.. then all of a sudden we started seeing them everywhere!

There were lots of white trillium too, but I already have plenty of photos of those, so I only took a few more.

NOTE: Remember not to pick or move these delicate flowers, and take photos instead — they’re protected by law. 😉

I go deeper into how trillium grow (and why they’re so easy to damage) here:

Looks a great day! I have problems reading your blog though. Does it only open properly in certain browsers?
